Say Nothing
by
Flume [Ft. MAY-A]
Flume has done it again! The Australian super-producer's future-pop banger 'Say Nothing', featuring the enchanting vocals of rising star MAY-A, is your Hottest song of 2022. He's become the second artist ever to top the annual countdown twice. Not bad for a guy who got his start using software from a cereal box at age 11…

Hottest 100 in Numbers
The Wrap Up
RETURN TO THE D-FLOOR
It’s clear that folks had their dancing shoes on as they casted their Hottest 100 votes this year. There were those who perfected their moves via TikTok choreo in the comfort of their bedrooms (hello, Lizzo’s ‘About Damn Time’ at #7 and Beyonce’s ‘CUFF IT’ at #24). Others opted for the communal option, with tracks that lit up festival and club crowds (Eliza Rose at #2 and Skin On Skin at #52, and Fred again.. at #14, #18, #26 and #100).
R-R-R-ROLL CALL
What better inspiration for the name of a song than the name of a person? ‘Delilah’ was the highest ranking name at #14 (and Fred again..’s ‘Danielle’ kicked off the countdown at #100), with Lime Cordiale’s ‘Colin’ and Central Cee’s ‘Doja’ following after at #34 and #39. Local acts Teenage Dads and The Rions went one step further with The Name Game with their b2b entries ‘Teddy’ and ‘Anakin’ clocking in at #63 and #64. Then there’s Drake’s ode to everyone’s favourite Degrassi student – ‘Jimmy Cooks’ – which dropped at #76.
THE POWER OF ALBUMS
We’re (un)officially deeming 2022 the Year Of The Album. Plenty of artists copped repeat entries with singles from their records, like King Stingray (King Stingray), Flume (Palaces), Ocean Alley (Low Altitude Living) and Beyonce (RENAISSANCE). Plus, Spacey Jane clocked six entries (#3, #5, #6, #25, #40 and #75) in the countdown with songs from their triple j Album Poll-winning Here Comes Everybody.
LONG TIME NO SEE
Alongside a number of debuts and new names, some familiar voices returned to the countdown this year. Parkway Drive made their return after an eight-year hiatus at #86 and ‘New Gold’ saw Gorillaz re-emerge in the countdown at #13 after last appearing in 2010. There’s also Paramore, who finally made their Hottest 100 debut at #45 with ‘This Is Why, almost two decades after releasing their first album back in 2005.
